Udział w międzynarodowych konkursach robotycznych jako nowa forma podróży studenckich

W artykule przedstawiono możliwości odbywania podróży zagranicznych przez studentów uczestniczących w międzynarodowych konkursach, w szczególności w zawodach robotycznych, popularnych między innymi wśród polskich studentów. Jak pokazują zebrane dane zawody te przyciągnęły nawet kilka tysięcy uczestników w ciągu ostatnich lat. Zaprezentowany został dodatkowy efekt ich uczestnictwa w konkursach, jakim jest turystyka uprawiana w trakcie takich wyjazdów i nazwana przez autorów turystyką konkursową

Participation in international robotics competitions as a new form of student travel

The article presents opportunities for foreign travel by students based on trips to international competitions, in particular robotic competitions. As the data collected show, these have attracted several thousand participants in recent years. The article presents an additional effect of participation in such competitions which is tourism during the trips

Climate change as an educational challenge

Zmiana klimatu jest zjawiskiem o charakterze globalnym i ma wpływ na życie każdego człowieka. Przeciwdziałanie zmianom klimatu powinno być nie tylko przedmiotem polityki klimatycznej. Wysiłki w tym celu powinny być podejmowane przez wszystkie grupy społeczne i podmioty gospodarcze. Zależy to jednak od wiedzy i świadomości przyczyn, konsekwencji i mechanizmów zmiany klimatycznej. Celem niniejszego artykułu jest diagnoza stanu edukacji klimatycznej w Polsce w perspektywie geograficznej oraz próba wyznaczenia efektywnych sposobów jej realizacji. Dokonano przeglądu inicjatyw z tego zakresu. Przedstawiono wyniki badań ankietowych przeprowadzonych w Polsce wśród uczniów i nauczycieli. Poziom wiedzy na temat klimatu w społeczeństwie polskim jest niski; duże luki deklarowane są częściej przez młodzież (18-24 lat) niż osoby starsze. Dla większości społeczeństwa głównym źródłem wiedzy o zmianie klimatu są mass media, co utrudnia kształtowanie wysokiej świadomości społecznej w tej dziedzinie, opartej na rzetelnej wiedzy. Konieczne jest dostosowanie podstawy programowej kształcenia ogólnego do każdego etapu edukacyjnego pod kątem uwzględnienia zagadnień klimatycznych oraz wzmocnienie współpracy między szkołami a uczelniami wyższymi w kontekście edukacji klimatycznej. Edukacja klimatyczna jest ważną częścią edukacji geograficznej, ale powinna być wprowadzana do kształcenia także w innych zakresach w celu kształtowania np. wśród ekonomistów, architektów, planistów postaw zbieżnych z ideą zrównoważonego rozwoju.Climate change is a global phenomenon and it affects every human being. Counteraction of climate change should be included not only in climate policy; whole societies and business entities should make efforts to support it. However, the willingness to undertake such actions depends on knowledge and awareness of climate change. The article aims to diagnose climate education in Poland from a geographical perspective and makes an attempt to define effective means of its implementation. It also describes the factors determining climate education initiatives and presents the results of the questionnaire surveys conducted among Polish students and teachers. The level of climate awareness in Polish society is low; a considerable knowledge gap is declared more often by young people (age 18-24) than by older groups. For the majority of the population, the main source of information about climate change is mass media which makes it difficult to build a high level of social awareness concerning climate change based on sound knowledge. It is necessary to adjust the school curriculum for each education stage in terms of climate issues and to strengthen cooperation between schools and scientific institutions concerning climate education, which is an important part of teaching geography. Climate education should be also introduced into other areas of education, involving economists, architects and urban planners, in order to shape attitudes that are in line with the idea of sustainable development

ENM2020 : A FREE ONLINE COURSE AND SET OF RESOURCES ON MODELING SPECIES NICHES AND DISTRIBUTIONS

The field of distributional ecology has seen considerable recent attention, particularly surrounding the theory, protocols, and tools for Ecological Niche Modeling (ENM) or Species Distribution Modeling (SDM). Such analyses have grown steadily over the past two decades-including a maturation of relevant theory and key concepts-but methodological consensus has yet to be reached. In response, and following an online course taught in Spanish in 2018, we designed a comprehensive English-language course covering much of the underlying theory and methods currently applied in this broad field. Here, we summarize that course, ENM2020, and provide links by which resources produced for it can be accessed into the future. ENM2020 lasted 43 weeks, with presentations from 52 instructors, who engaged with >2500 participants globally through >14,000 hours of viewing and >90,000 views of instructional video and question-and-answer sessions. Each major topic was introduced by an "Overview" talk, followed by more detailed lectures on subtopics. The hierarchical and modular format of the course permits updates, corrections, or alternative viewpoints, and generally facilitates revision and reuse, including the use of only the Overview lectures for introductory courses. All course materials are free and openly accessible (CC-BY license) to ensure these resources remain available to all interested in distributional ecology.Peer reviewe
